Thrifted Thursday: Traveling with Kids

Recently I had my kiddos out with me in Washington State (Matt was there too).. and I wanted to limit the number of bags that we took with us but there is only one issue... kids need a lot of STUFF!

The clothing I managed to get all in one bag. YES clothes for all 5 of us and for a week!

But there are other things needed when you are in a second floor condo that has NOTHING for kids. What is a girl to do??? HELLO hit up a few thrift stores the day that you get into town!

I was lucky enough to stop in one of them on their half off day!!! Baby gate for $3... CHECK

Little booster seat for Gibson... $2

Puzzles and toys at 25 cents each! WHAT! I was worried that all of the puzzle pieces wouldn't be in the box but it was totally worth the risk at 25 cents... and guess what... all there! I was SUPER tempted to bring the puzzle back with us but just didn't have the room.

All of these foam building blocks $5... a splurge but kids loved them and I was also tempted to bring them home.

Books and DVDs a various costs (nothing over $2) The place we stayed didn't have tv but does have a DVD player.

On the morning of my last day I donated everything back to the local thrift store! EASY!

I'll be back later today with photos of your condo! I HEART it!

Thrifted Thursday: Records AND Party decorations

It might come as a surprise but my little guy turns one next week and falling right in line with his name and the theme of his old nursery we decided to throw him a Rock Star themed birthday party!

One of my besties Virginia took some amazing photos of Gibson that we used for the invitation.

and this was the photo on the save the date that we sent electronically through Paperless Post.

LOVE them! Virginia is so talented and the owner of House of Maps Photography!

Once the invites were sent it was time to focus on decorations. Like any mother looking for inspiration I clicked over to Pinterest.

One thing that I came across again and again were decorations made with old records. HELLO PERFECT for my Gibson!

I bought old records in bulk from eBay and Thrift stores. I purchased both the standard and smaller sizes.

I'm going to use them in so many ways!

BOWLS...

Tiered Trays

Garland...

Table Runner...

AND more... I cannot wait to share all of the details after the party on Sunday... but until that I'm just loving that I was able to repurpose a thrifted find!

Thrifted Thursday #5- Homework Station

I'm back with another Thrifted Thursday!

A few months ago I shared that I created a homework station for Emma and I'm excited to share all of the fun details!

I purchased a SUPER ugly green wooden tray from UNIQUE Thrift Store in Falls Church.

The cost was only $2.99... so a steal for such a solid piece.

Decided to give it three coats with my favorite gray spray paint (RUST-OLEUM Dark Gray)

I'm in love with the result

I also added a few key homework essentials to the tray...

  • Pencils in a mint julep cup (Also bought this cup for 1.99 at Salvation Army)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Markers in a glass vase (left over from my wedding)
  • Colored pencils
  • Notebook
  • Extra folders
In the notebook...

I added calendars to keep track of all assignments and test days.

I also purchased a small box from homegoods for $5.99

It is the perfect size for...
  • Scissors
  • Large eraser
  • Calculator
  • glue stick

We love having everything in one place! It makes homework time go so much smoother!

Thrifted Thursday #3

I'm so excited to share another great thrift store find! A few weeks ago at my local Salvation Army I spotted this little gem for only $4.99

The table was originally from target and looked a little rough around the edges but I knew that this would be the perfect side table for little Elijah's nursery. All it needed was some gray spray paint

and light blue paint on the top! (had all materials on hand)

I cannot wait for this to go by the chair in his nursery! What an easy update at a GREAT price!

Thrifted Thursday #2

Guest what I found at the thrift store for only $3.99???

Yup some ugly green in-boxes for my desk at work... what you wouldn't want to have these dirty things on your desk???

Well after some scrubbing and a few coats of gold spray paint they are looking chic!

I took them to work and they give my desk a bit of individuality... which if you know me, I'm all about. In fact, here is my desk...

I covered my plain tan cork-board with left over fabric from our sun room. It adds a fun pop of color in an office where all of the work spaces look the same... brown brown and some more brown... not for me!

I also put up some cute instagram photos. Makes me smile all day to have so many photos of my family to look at! AND bonus their small size allows me to have so many without taking up a large footprint.

Between the photos and fun colors, my desk really makes me feel at home and my new gold accent is just icing in the cake! Whenever you see something at a thrift store I challenge you to thing of a way to revamp it to make it into something that would make you smile!

Thrifted Thursday #1

It has been a WHILE since I shared a Thrifed transformation with you and I'm happy to say that I am back with one today.

Last week I visited my local Salvation Army and found this $2.99 frame that was in need of some love...

I knew right away that the openings would be PERFECT for instagram prints.

So after ordering some through Printstagram and giving the frame a coat of White spray paint and the matting received a coat of gray I was left with something wonderful!

The prints were just a little too small for the openings so I simply added some black card stock to the back of the mat and used tape to add the photos.
Here is the final result! I LOVE IT!

Not too bad for a $2.99 frame!
