THE MERGE: Bedskirts and Organization

Last time I shared the progress in the Boy's shared bedroom the bed was missing some personality and the closet was a hot mess!

As an update, I'm happy to report that I completed the bedskirt and a big Euro size pillow for Hunter's Bed.

I still need to get a large photo of our silly man for above his bed. And I want to find a throw for the bottom of the bed.

And the closet which was a HOT MESS...

Happy to say that Matt knocked it out of the park with the ClosetMaid System from Home Depot.

Love the drawers on the bottom

and open shelves on the top

And here it is with some cute clothes...

Now we just need some doors on here!!!

Sewing Machine Cover

Yesterday I shared my new sewing station

And under the table you could see a little sneak peak of my newly covered sewing machine!

I wanted for the machine to be easily accessible but also to blend in with the surroundings so I covered with some left over fabric from my DIY headboard.

First I measured the cover of the sewing machine and cut the fabric to size.

After cutting the fabric down I sewed all of the sides.

After cutting down the fabric and sewing the sides, I grabbed some burlap ribbon that I had on hand and cut Four 18" strips

Each strip of ribbon was fastened to the edges of the fabric with a push pin. about 3 inches from each of the edges.

The ribbons were sewn into place and I simply draped the fabric over the machine, tied the burlap bow in a ribbon, and snipped the edges of the ribbon.

Love the result! and this was an easy 5 minute project!

Sewing Station!

I'm so excited to be sharing my new SEWING STATION!

Sewing is a new "hobby" for me and up until now I've pulled all of my equipment/materials from random corners of the house (Nothing was organized) and I would set up my machine on the dining room table.

No longer!!!

Now I have a  nice large wooden table under the window in our spare bedroom!

I love these glass jars (that I picked up last week from Salvation Army. The small jar holds little chocolates and the larger one holds all of my thread! I love seeing all of the pretty colors!

I also love this little shadow box that I popped some photos in from our fall shoot. They are just attached with little push pins for easy updates.

I made a cover for my sewing machine which tucks perfectly under the table... Will share more about this little project tomorrow.

Next to the table we have a basket that holds big fabric remnants

Smaller pieces of fabric are housed in two of the canvas bins in my bookcase... Side note: I still LOVE my pop of color behind the bookcase!!!

So that is my new little sewing home!!! I am so excited that I will no longer need to dig around in multiple rooms to find what I am looking for. I'm also happy that I will no longer need to sew at my dining room table. YAY!!!!

DIY Burp Cloths

I'm here today to share with you one of my go-to Baby gifts! Homemade Burp cloths!

When preggers with Hunter I ran across this great MADE tutorial and instantly pinned it on Pinterest. Before Hunter was born I purchased a ton of fabric and cloth diapers to create my own burp cloths for Hunter.

One of the best tips that I have are to actually purchase a set of light flannel blankets (I like the Carter Sets)

These are typically about $12.00 for FOUR blankets and I like that they are all coordinating! It makes for a much more put together gift...

Now for some fun burp cloth making...

Get out your supplies...

Iron your fabrics

Get your sewing machine ready... I use the Brother PC-420PRW Project Runway Edition Sewing Machine that my parents got for me for Christmas two years ago. I LOVE my machine! It is so easy to use and believe me I am a sewing rookie!

Next, I fold over the fabric to make a flat/clean edge and iron down...

I sew that flattened edge on the center of the "cloth diaper", cut the rest of the fabric to form a strip down the middle, fold and iron to form a straight edge.

Sew down second edge and sew top and bottom to the cloth diaper.
I continue your other coordinating fabrics to make other matching burp cloths... I like to make at least three.

These always make fabulous gifts... I like to pair it with a diaper cake made out of Honest Diapers and some of Hunter's favorite things! (The burp cloths are in the box on the bottom!)
