Pinterest Challenge: Project Headboard

Last week I shared my excitement that it was once again time for a Pinterest Challenge!

I was beyond excited and knew right away that I wanted to DIY a head board for the spare bedroom and I shared some inspiration photos found on Pinterest Here...

My sweet Hubby rigged up the frame for the headboard out of 2x2 Pine wood and assembled the pieces with his handy little nail gun! originally I was just going to have him construct a square and just screw it into the wall. I like his construction better as the center support will make the headboard sturdier and the legs also made it so much easier to assemble. Hubby is so smart!

Next I laid out some thick quilting which I cut with a 2" boarder around the frame

I folded the quilting over and used my staple gun to secure the material to the back of the frame.

Next you take your fabric of choice... I decided to actually use a Twin Quilt that I purchased for $19.99 from Homegoods. The second I spotted the bright color I fell in love! I also really liked that the fabric had texture and a quilting which you will see in the last few photos!

For the corners I just simply folded over the fabric neatly and cut off some access fabric so that the staples would properly hold.

And here she is!!! Buy using the twin blanket the headboard has texture and it adds to the dimension. I LOVE IT! The quilting also makes it super soft!

And here she is in the room...

 Here was our before...

Yes...  we moved the bed to another wall in the room!Matt and I decided that having the headboard cover part of the window was a bad idea so we did a little flip over to an empty wall.

Now I just need to add something over the headboard so the wall behind it does not look so empty... But that is a project for another day!

Many thanks to the wonderful hosts of the Pinterest Challenge! Head over to their blogs to see other great projects!

You might remember that I in the winter I participated in this challenge and did the DIY mercury Glass lamp for our master bedroom!

As I am still working on my spare bedroom... I've decided that I would complete a pinterest project with that room in mind.

Here is a reminder of what the room currently looks like...

I'm thinking that I will tackle a headboard!

Here are a few images that I am finding inspiration from on Pinterest! Of course a few are not possible with the configuration of our room... but they are fun and unique... so I have to share!

Stop back by on Wednesday, 8 May to see what I was able to come up with!!!

Pinterest Challenge: DIY Mercury Glass Lamp

I am so excited to be linking up to the great Pinterest Challenge (Winter Edition). Thanks so much to Sherry, Katie and their co-hosts Megan and Michelle for hosting this awesome and fun challenge!

This is my very first Pinterest Challenge and I'm so excited o participate!!!

The last time I was in B-Thrifty there was just too much eye candy in their lighting department.

I just couldn't help myself and I brought home these two beauties... Since it was President's Day everything in the store was 50% off so I scored these for only $12.49 and $10.00. Cannot beat those prices!

EHHH these were NOT going to work in their current condition. So I turned to Pinterest for some inspiration and remembered that I had previously pinned a few lamp images!

Can you guess what I did??? I  DIYed a Mercury Glass Lamp!

Again this is what I started with...

Step one was to use some Frog Tape to tape the tops and the cords...

I whipped out some Kyron Looking Glass Mirror-Like Spray Paint that I had ordered from Amazon and took the lamps out to my designated spray painting area... aka a picnic table that came with our house (when we have people over we toss an outdoor table cloth on top...) This is after one coat... Be sure to do VERY light coats as the paint will drip because it is very thin.

After three coats I decided that it was time to get my mercury glass on...

So I whipped out a spray bottle of water and sprayed the lamps with water... this point my heart was pounding from fear that I was about to ruin the lamps.

While the lamps were still wet I sprayed another coat of the Looking-Glass Spray Paint. I instantly loved the formerly white lamp as it looked like mercury glass immediately after spraying... the taller green lamps was another story... the water was beady and not creating the right look.

I was excited and disappointed all at once... my next thought was that the green lamp didn't work because it was a more matted ceramic type glass and that the paint had a different effect... So I have some different plans for that one down the road...

But here is my beautiful Mercury glass Lamp! I'm so proud of her! look at this side detail

She was looking a little naked on top so I headed to Bed, Bath, and Beyond for a simple medium shade, and other materials.
For the sake of the project I put both lamps behind the bed... Big improvement from where we were at the beginning of February

Again I love the results that I had on my one VERY glossy glass lamp... I'm going to be on the look out for another one with similar lines so that hubby can have a nice Mercury glass lamp.

Pinterest Challenge!

So I finally broke down... I am joining Pinterest. I have been extremely hesitant to join Pinterst and not due to a belief that it is stupid or a waste of time... it is in fact the opposite! I knew that I would be hooked! I knew that within a matter of minutes I would be a crazy person with 100 things pinned and that I would never be able to pull myself away! I also had the fear that I would pin so many items that I would feel overwhelmed and never actually do something with them.

WELLLLLLL... I have a solution. I will keep my boards limited to the following categories:
  • Home
  • Baby
  • Emma
  • Yummy Food!
  • Parties
Also, to stay motivated to actually DO and not just pin... I am imposing a Pinterest Challenge that I will do with my co-worker Christina. Every Friday we are going to have to show that we have accomplished one thing due to inspiration from an item that we have pinned. This could be as simple as cooking a recipe or even a craft project that takes weeks...

Another goal is to actually blog about my weekly item. We will see how successful that is... as you all know I'm not that great when it comes to posting regularly on here.

For my first week I will be working on a few items for Emma's 8th birthday party. Here is a sneak peak at an image that I will be getting inspiration from!
